Spinal Decompression Treatment

Jacksonville, FL

A Non-Surgical Solution for Chronic Back Pain

At Medic Health, we are pleased to offer the DRX-9000™ Spinal Decompression treatment which is an advanced non-surgical therapy that helps patients with their chronic back pain problems. Decompression treatment of the vertebral spine using the DRX-9000™ is designed to provide pain relief to patients with compressive and degenerative injuries of the spine. Results may vary from patient to patient depending on the severity of their condition.

Decompression therapy can help:

  • Sciatica
  • Herniated and bulging discs
  • Multilevel disc herniation
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Facet syndromes
  • Failure of pain relief following surgery (Surgical clearance required)

In some instances, the DRX-9000™ can be an alternative to spinal surgery. It provides relief by reducing the load in the intervertebral disc spaces of the spine, and this relief of pressure allows discs and surrounding tissues to rehydrate and realign. Patients have reported noticeable results early in the treatment with less pain and better quality of life.

We offer Lumbar and Cervical disc decompression treatments. Each decompression session lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Each treatment session lasts about 30 minutes. While laying down on the table, you will be secured by an upper and lower body harness. You can completely relax by watching a DVD on a monitor and/or listening to music.

No. The DRX9000™ is totally safe and comfortable for all subjects. It is our intention to provide you with relief from your chronic pain. During your treatment, the DRX-9000™ will be gently pulling your spine back and forth alternating with maximum and minimum decompressive forces. The system has emergency stop switches for both the patient and the operator. These switches terminate the treatment immediately in case you experience pain or discomfort to avoid any injuries.

Most patients do not experience any side effects. Though, there have been some mild cases of muscle spasm for a short period of time. In some instances, small number of patients experience mild discomfort during or after treatment which is like the soreness experienced after an exercise routine.

A total of 12 to 20 sessions are required to see maximal benefits. Every patient is different and there is no guarantees that the DRX9000 can provide relief in all cases. We encourage patients to undergo a follow-up MRI after completion of treatment to assess for any anatomical changes and/or improvements.

Typically additional treatments are not required after the completion of the treatment protocol. However, as with any treatment there are always severe cases associated with particular job/lifestyle activities that may require re-evaluations. In cases of persistent pain, referrals to specialists will be offered and provided to the patient.

If you suffer from persistent chronic back pain due to sciatica, herniated and bulging lumbar intervertebral discs, degenerative disc disease, facet syndromes, or if you have been told you need surgery after failing physical therapy and other conservative methods, then you are probably a good candidate.

There are some criteria we use to determine if DRX9000 is contraindicated for you or not. These contraindications are:

  • Vertebral Fractures
  • Acute Inflammatory Disease, RA, Ankylosing, Spondylitis
  • Dislocations, ligament tears or ruptures
  • Surgical hardware such as pedicle screws and rods
  • Unstable Post Surgical Conditions
  • Pregnancy
  • Prior lumbar fusion less than six months old
  • Tumor or Metastatic cancer
  • Infection of the spine or disk spaces
  • Bone metabolism abnormalities: Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia, Pagets Disease etc.

  • Pathologic aortic aneurysm
  • Pelvic or abdominal cancer
  • Severe peripheral neuropathy
  • Neurological conditions or deficits: Cauda Equina lesions, Hemiplegia, paraplegia
  • Spinal instability or peripheral signs on both flexion and extension

In most cases the DRX9000™ treatment is not contra-indicated for patients that have had an old spinal surgery. Some patients may find benefit after a failed back surgery. We encourage patients that have surgical procedures done in their back to consult with their surgeon before starting decompression treatment.

Most patients report a reduction in pain after the first few sessions. Results vary from patient to patient depending on the severity of their condition.
